Avant-garde as a fleeting experience in late Soviet music

ISSN 2308-1333

Abstract
The article presents a panorama of the modernist movement of the second half of the twentieth century. Avant-garde as a trend in Soviet musical art of the 1950s-70s is examined in a multidimensional way, in particular as a technical "rearmament" that led to total serialism and aleatoricism. The ways of departure from the avant-garde are explored from a historical perspective: a return to moderate modernism (neoclassicism, neo-romanticism, neo-baroque) or, on the contrary, an estrangement from the preceding tradition (postmodernism, minimalism). The work of A. M. Volkonsky, E. V. Denisov, S. A. Gubaidulina and A. G. Schnittke is used to explore the specifics of the Soviet avant-garde.
