Method of Chronotopical Analysis of Musical Work (by the example of Debussy’s prelude ‘Canope’)

ISSN 2308-1333

Abstract

Time and space present an inseparable unity in music, although sometimes they are studied separately. The term ‘chronotope’ unifying both these categories has been used for a long time in musicology and has been known to denote various concepts. The author of this article comes up with her own definition of ’chronotope’ concept, drawing on the premises and aims of the suggested method of chronotopical analysis. The method is demonstrated through the analysis of Debussy’s prelude ‘Canope’.
