The Theory of Genres in the Old-Russian Chant

Abstract

The article presents certain ways of implementation of the theory of genres, which ways were formed within the Old-Russian musical script tradition. Unlike other components of music theory, this tradition is implemented directly in typicons and chant books rather than in any specific manuals. This kind of implementation of the theory may be defined as a distributional one.
