Wandering as the principle of P. Vähi oeuvre

ISSN 2308-1333

Abstract

The music of one of the most universal composers of Estonia, Peeter Vähi, is examined in the article from the point of view of the unity of life and oeuvre — as an inseparable whole. This understanding is largely facilitated by Vähi’s countless long journeys, including expeditions to remote regions, which are one way or another reflected in his works. The first level of their manifestation is associated with a deep tendency, characteristic for Estonian music — a special attitude towards nature. The second one is associated with the cultural traditions of the countries and regions where he happened to visit. The author comes to the conclusion that Vähi’s music is firmly integrated into life and in this it gains its strength.
