Abstract
Devoted to one of the most mysterious works in the history of violin music, this article sheds light on the phenomenon known as “Vitali’s Chaconne”. Nowadays the “Chaconne” is rarely performed in its original version. The only known baroque source remains a handwritten copy dated back to the first third of the 18th century, which caused ongoing discussions of scientists how to interpret the heading “Parte del Tomaso Vitalino”.
